TON Taster Sessions

If you want to try your hand at making pots on the wheel without a major commitment, this is for you.  Taster sessions are held on a regular basis, each participant will have their own wheel and will receive tuition and clay for two hours.

Please note that throwing is just the first of many necessary steps in the making process and there is simply not enough time to see a pot from start to finish in two hours. Therefore, we will not fire any pots after taster sessions.

Priority will be given to newcomers!

A five-day intensive skill-building course focused on the design and production of teapots. We will cover how we make teapots on the potter’s wheel:

  • beginning with our design process (sketching, aesthetic and practical considerations and balancing the two)
  • technical exercises that will help you tackle some of the sticking points of wheelthrown teapots (i.e. spouts and galleries)
  • throwing and assembling components (bodies, spouts and lids that fit) and solving the problems that may arise along the way
  • making ergonomic handles, whether they are pulled or made from wood or other materials and added after the firing
  • time permitting, cups or mugs can be made to go with the teapots

We provide detailed handouts with diagrams and instructions for you to take away for future reference. Five to six electric fired pieces are included, which can be picked up at a later date. Alternatively, shipping can be arranged.
